Art Acquisition & Sale

Art Appraisal Services

L&L ARTS provides certified appraisals for insurance scheduling, insurance damage and loss, estate tax and estate planning, equitable distribution for divorce, non-cash Charitable Donations, and Resale/Liquidation. Our appraisal reports are prepared in accordance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the highly regarded industry standard for professional appraisers, and meet IRS and Insurance Industry Standards.

All appraisals reports are extremely thoroughly researched, documented, and analyzed, no matter if we do a virtual examination of a single work of art, or a visit-on site for a large collection or artist estate.

The appraisal process begins with a formal discussion with the client about the artwork(s) to be appraised and the purpose of the appraisal. Once the valuation approach is determined, an estimated fee is given based on the hours of work anticipated to complete the assignment. Following is an onsite - or virtual - inspection to examine, measure and photograph the artwork(s). Comparable works are researched using our expansive network of academic resources, online auction databases, gallery prices and catalogue raisonnés.

You will then receive a formal written report that includes:
- signed certification, appraiser's credentials
- scope of work, and appraisal method employed
- marketplace analysis and context in which values are determined
- full description of the artwork(s) and photographs with artist biography
- subject painting analysis, comparable analysis (value conclusion)
- summary of values by category and/or location
